Biography
CEYLON: A Celebration of Life Services for Harold A. Huntley, 89, of Ceylon, Minnesota, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minnesota with Rev. Russell Reimers Officiating. Burial will be in Lake Belt Cemetery in rural Ceylon with full military honors by the Nassen-Detert American Legion Post #529 of Ceylon.
Harold died on Monday morning, January 11, 2010 at the St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon. Harold Abe Huntley was born on October 10, 1920 to Alonzo and Bessie (Truck) Huntley in Wallingford, Iowa. He received his education in Iowa schools and then farmed in the Iowa area. In July of 1942 he entered the United States Army serving in France and Germany where he received three bronze stars and a purple heart. Harold was honorably discharged in September of 1945. He farmed and was employed for Halvorson Produce. On March 24, 1974, he was united in marriage to Doris (Gettler) Simpson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert. After their marriage, they lived in Ceylon where they owned and operated Huntley’s Tavern from 1966 to 1976. Harold then was employed for the city of Ceylon until his retirement. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon, the Nassen-Detert American Legion Post #529 of Ceylon. He enjoyed caring for his lawn, gardening, tinkering around his home, playing cards, fishing and teasing his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Huntley of Ceylon, Minnesota; stepson, Larry Simpson and his wife, Shirley, of rural Ceylon, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Colleen Walerczyk and husband, Frank, of Amarillo, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ben, Darrell, Roy, Dave Huntley; sisters, Ola Hanzel and May Zitterich and other relatives.
