Biography
A Celebration of Life Service for Russell F. Delaney, 82, of Trimont, Minnesota will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Trimont, Minnesota with Pastor Joel Xavier officiating. Burial will be in Elm Creek Cemetery in Trimont, Minnesota with full military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont.
Russell died on Wednesday evening, January 27, 2010 at St. James Medical Center in St. James, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Saturday.
Russell Francis Delaney was born on February 19, 1927 to Charles and Lillian (Anderson) Delaney on the family farm in Galena Township, rural Ormsby, Minnesota. He attended school in Ormsby and later moved with his family to Indiana where he attended school. They later moved back to Ormsby. Russell then attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural School. On February 16, 1945, Russell enlisted into the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge on May 18, 1946 and then returned to graduate from school. On September 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Floraine Jensen at Trimont, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Trimont and Russell was employed as a mechanic for Eric Swanson Garage and then drove Standard Oil Bulk Truck in Trimont and drove school bus. He then was employed as an accountant for at South Central Electric in St. James until his retirement. Russell was a member of the United Methodist Church in Trimont where he held various church offices. He was an active member of Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont, was Past-Commander and Adjutant. He was a member of the Trimont Chamber of Commerce for many years and a member of Trimont and Martin County Historical Society. In his retirement years, Russell owned and operated Delaney’s Antiques in Trimont and enjoyed collecting and going to auctions. Russell greatly enjoyed going up north fishing with family and friends. Visiting, telling stories of present and past, going for coffee with his friends meant a lot to Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Floraine Delaney of Trimont; daughter, Michelle Persson and husband, Glee, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Pat) Daly of Anaconda, Montana, Sasha Guerdet of Mankato, Christopher Delaney of Mankato, Gabrielle Persson of Mankato and Jacob Persson of Brainerd; four great-granddaughters, Mary, Clare, Riley and Maddie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and John Hogan and sons of rural Sherburn and other relatives and friends.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce on March 4, 1996; five brothers, Earl, Harold, Charles, Bill and Herbert and other relatives.
