ST. JAMES: A Celebration of Life Service for Norman L. Sandmeyer, 66, of St. James, Minnesota will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, St. James, Minnesota with Pastor K. Christian Johnson and Pastor Joel F. Langholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin, Minnesota with full military honors by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard.

Norman died on Tuesday afternoon, March 2, 2010 at his home in St. James, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Norman Leroy Sandmeyer was born on July 3, 1943 to Herman Henry and Marie Ellen (Hanson) Sandmeyer in Comfrey, Minnesota. He was baptized on August 1, 1943 at the home of his parents in Comfrey and later confirmed on May 1, 1960 in First Lutheran Church in St. James. Norman attended school in Comfrey until moving to St. James where he graduated from St. James High School in 1961. He then was employed as a meat cutter at a grocery store in St. James. On July 12, 1968 he served in the United States Army until his honorable discharged on July 13, 1972. Norman was employed for Watonwan Farm Service mainly in the Fertilizer Department. On August 13, 1977, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Sandbo at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in St. James where Norman continued working at Watonwan Farm Service until his retirement. He then was employed at Westin Automotive in St. James until he retired in July of 2005. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. James and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He greatly enjoyed gardening, woodworking, being with family and babysitting his grandchildren and was the neighborhood handyman.



He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sandmeyer of St. James, Minnesota; daughter, Kim (Duane) Olenius of North Mankato, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ethan, Abby, Alex and Adam; sisters, LaVonne Schroeder of St. James, Doris Mae Ayres of St. James, Mildred (Lloyd) Weckwerth of Springfield, Minnesota, Norma Lou (Marlyn) Sieg of Truman, Joyce Sandmeyer of St. James, Mary Ellen Sandmeyer of St. James; sister-in-law, Edith (Weldon) Shaw of Emmons, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Lester (Cheri) Sandbo of Ormsby, Minnesota, Richard “Bick” Sandbo of rural Odin, Minnesota, Gene “Argo” (Patty) Sandbo of Sherburn; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerrold Sandmeyer; brothers-in-law, Armand Schroeder and Donald Ayres; mother and father-in-law, Carl and Leona Sandbo; sisters-in-law, Gerry Sandbo and Peggy Sandbo and other relatives.
