Biography

CEYLON: A Celebration of Life Services for Doris C. Huntley, 83, of Ceylon, Minnesota, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minnesota with Rev. Russell Reimers Officiating. Burial will be in Lake Belt Cemetery in rural Ceylon.

Doris died on Friday morning, March 5, 2010 at her home in Ceylon, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4:30 till 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, Minnesota and one hour prior at the church on Tuesday. Doris Colleen Gettler was born on March 15, 1926 to Clyde and Viola (Tourlellot) Gettler on the family farm in Lake Belt Township, Martin County, Minnesota. Doris was raised by her Parents and Uncles, Fritz and Harry Gettler. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Doris received her education in Sherburn schools and then was employed at various restaurants in the area. On September 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to Charles Simpson at Sherburn, Minnesota. They lived in Ceylon where they owned and operated Simpson’s Café until selling it in 1971. Charles died in 1972. On March 24, 1974, he was united in marriage to Harold Huntley at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert. After their marriage, they lived in Ceylon where they owned and operated Huntley’s Tavern. They later sold the Tavern and then Doris was employed as a cook for various restaurants in Ceylon and Dunnell. They continued living in Ceylon. Harold died on January 11, 2010. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Doris enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and going to the casino’s. She was well known for her great cooking and also her Dill Pickles.

Survivors include her son, Larry Simpson and his wife, Shirley, of rural Ceylon, Minnesota; daughter, Colleen Walerczyk and husband, Frank, of Amarillo, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Barbara (John) Truesdell of Sisseton, South Dakota, Kenneth (Jeanne) Gettler of Alpha, Minnesota, Jerry (Carole) Gettler of Mesa, Arizona, Carol (Mark) Guilliame of Santa Ana, California; sisters-in-law, Mary Gettler of St. Charles, Minnesota, Shirley (John) Swanson of Delano, Karyl Nelson of Vail, Colorado; brother-in-law, Jerome (Sally) Simpson of Switzerland; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Charles Simpson and Harold Huntley; brothers, Roy and Wayne Gettler; and other relatives.
