ODIN: A Celebration of Life Services for Gerald E. Lenning, 82, of Odin, Minnesota will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin, Minnesota with Pastor Carla Reierson officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin with full military honors by the Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield.
Gerald died on Tuesday morning, October 12, 2010 at St. James Medical Center in St. James, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4:00 –7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Friday. Gerald Eugene Lenning was born on August 11, 1928 to Oscar and Alma (Kramer) Lenning on the family farm in Watonwan County, Minnesota. He received his education in St. James School. Gerald entered the United States Army on November 29, 1950 and served in Korea until his honorable discharge on August 29, 1952. He then did corn shelling with his father in the area. On November 29, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mavis Anderson at St. James, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived in Odin where Gerald farmed and owned and operated Lenning’s Soft Water Service. Gerald was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield, Odin Sportsmen Club, Odin Fast pitch Softball Team and a former member of the Odin Fire Department. Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing, going to air shows and flea markets. Gerald took great pride at placing United States Flags on Memorial Day at Zion Lutheran Cemetery every year to honor the Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Lenning of Odin, Minnesota; sons, Brian (LuAnn) Lenning of Ormsby, Minnesota and Bruce Lenning of Bemidji, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Kara) Krumwiede and family of Savage, Minnesota and Jessica (Joey) Wendinger and family of Mankato, Minnesota; brothers, Gene (Joyce) Lenning of Butterfield, Minnesota and Dennis (Janice) Lenning of Montevideo, Minnesota; sister, Lois Reiff of New Ulm, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Elna Paulson of rural St. James, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Melford Anderson of St. Paul; several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Lenning; sisters-in-law, Bev Lenning, Jean Anderson; brothers-in-law, Orville Anderson, Everett Reiff, Alvin “Duffy” Paulson; niece, Loray Lenning and other relatives.
