Elaine Kathryn Kampert was born on October 24, 1933 to Willis and Hazel (Mulhern) Kampert in rural Welcome, Minnesota. At an early age she moved with her family to Fairmont and then to a farm near Sherburn, Minnesota and attended country school District #26 and later was a 1951 graduate of Sherburn-Dunnell High School. On September 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Paul “Junior” Ficken at the United Methodist Church in Sherburn, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed on the home place on Highway #4 raising hogs, beef cattle, milked cows and raised chickens. They sold eggs to many people including the school and the bakery. Elaine worked at Fairmont Foods in the winter months. Elaine also was employed at the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont. They moved to a farm by Fox Lake in 1989. Elaine was happiest when she was playing with her grandchildren. They had family over for special occasions and holidays because of their lake home, and enjoyed fishing on the pier, waterskiing and boating. Elaine enjoyed watching television, gardening and working in her flower garden. She enjoyed collecting little crocks and vases. Elaine was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Sherburn until it closed and then joined the Trimont United Methodist Church.
